World Physiotherapy pays tribute to Dr Hana Ahmed Al-Khamees

World Physiotherapy is saddened to learn of the passing of Dr Hana Ahmed Al-Khamees, former president of the Kuwaiti Physical Therapy Association (KPTA), a respected leader and advocate for the physiotherapy profession in Kuwait and beyond.

Dr Hana Ahmed Al-Khamees served as president of KPTA, the national member organisation representing physiotherapists in Kuwait, from 2019-2026. She was the first female president of the association and was elected three times during her presidency.

In this role, she was a committed voice for the profession, working to strengthen professional standards, raise awareness of physiotherapy, and support the development of the health workforce in her country.

Throughout her leadership, she championed the role of physiotherapy in improving health and wellbeing, promoting its importance in prevention, rehabilitation, and recovery across healthcare settings.

She actively engaged in public and professional outreach, representing KPTA through media engagement and national initiatives, including activities linked to World Physiotherapy’s global advocacy efforts such as World PT Day and specialty group the International Organization of Physiotherapists in Pelvic and Women's Health (IOPPWH).

Through her leadership, she strengthened the profession nationally while contributing to our global community. She will be remembered for her commitment, professionalism, and the lasting impact she has had on colleagues and the profession.'

Dr Al-Khamees contributed to policy dialogue and professional development in Kuwait, advocating for strengthened regulation and recognition of physiotherapists within the health system. Her leadership reflected a strong commitment to advancing the profession and ensuring high standards of care. Colleagues at the Kuwait Physical Therapy Association expressed their heartfelt condolences to her family, recognising her leadership and lasting contribution to the development of the profession in Kuwait.

Through her work, she helped raise the profile of physiotherapy nationally and supported its integration within broader health and rehabilitation services. Her contributions have left a lasting impact on the profession in Kuwait and within the global physiotherapy community.
